| The reflex type telephoto lens is so compact and light it permits
hand-held photography despite its impressive 500mm super telephoto focal length. Focusing is achieved by extension of the front lens element, and the design is such as to reduce image quality fall-off at close focusing distances - a perennial problem with this type of lens - to a barely noticeable minimum. Because this is a reflex type lens there is no diaphragm. Getting the correct exposures relies on use of a suitable film speed, adjusting the shutter speed, and use when necessary of ND filters to reduce the light intensity. |

Out of focus highlight spots will produce doughnut-shapes typical for a
reflex lens. For hand-held photography, a shutter speed of 1/500 sec. or faster is recommended. Also, to prevent camera shake: When using a tripod, hold the camera steady with both hands and press the shutter release with the ball of finger, not with the cable release. Compatible focusing screens: 1-4, 1-8 and 1-10. Screens 1-1~1-3, 1-13 and 1-14 can be used by focusing on the matte ground surface. |
